On the Environment

Progress. We can’t move forward without it. But with it often comes sacrifice. But sacrifice too often is something we do to things we need. Like the environment. Which we very much need.

We can begin progress best by attempting to reverse the effects of the worst of the industrial age via the best effects of the information age. By finding alternative fuels and stronger materials with which to build our world’s necessities, we can better hope to leave a pleasant world for our children.

Imagine a world filled with air-fueled vehicles. Engines that pull hydrogen from the very air around us, propelling us to work or to Starbuck’s, perhaps even Jamba Juice. It’s not far off. In fact, many of the most influential automobile companies are already on the proverbial bandwagon with attempts at alternative-fuel transportation.

Perhaps the best example is the Kia Bandwagon, an experimental vehicle that could one day eliminate our dependence on that most odiferous of substances: oil. It’s no secret that some of this country’s greatest problems come from oil. With it’s bad smell, noisiness inside of engines, and viscosity, oil on its own brings olfactory pollution, noise pollution, and messy spills. And what of Hydrogen? That’s right, it’s floating right in front of your nose right now. No pollution there.

Imagining a world sparked by hydrogen and fueled with the air we breathe isn’t all so hard now. Which is why I choose to champion the standardization of hydrogen fuel in the year 2020 and 2016.
